South Florida’s Encroachment of the Sea and Environmental Transformation over the 21st Century

چکیده
South Florida encompasses a dynamic confluence of urban and natural ecosystems strongly connected to ocean and freshwater hydrologic forcings. Low land elevation, flat topography and highly transmissive aquifers place both communities at the nexus of environmental and ecological transformation driven by rising sea level. Based on a local sea level rise projection, we examine regional inundation impacts and employ hydrographic records in Florida Bay and the southern Everglades to assess water level exceedance dynamics and landscape-relevant tipping points. Intrinsic mode functions of water levels across the coastal interface are used to gauge the relative influence and time-varying transformation potential of estuarine and freshwater marshes into a marine-dominated environment with the introduction of a Marsh-to-Ocean transformation index (MOI).

Management Accounting Education for the 21st Century Firms
Management accounting has become a subject of hot debates over the last four decades and has undergone a major transformation. It is argued that traditional management accounting roles have either disappeared or been changed. The debate is based on the belief that roles of ‘Management Accountants’ require new forms of education and training, with more emphasis on the practicality of the subjec...
متن کاملDynamics of marsh-mangrove ecotone since the mid-Holocene: A palynological study of mangrove encroachment and sea level rise in the Shark River Estuary, Florida
Sea level rise and the associated inland shift of the marsh-mangrove ecotone in south Florida have raised many scientific and management concerns in recent years. Holocene paleoecological records can provide an important baseline to shed light on the long-term dynamics of vegetation changes across this ecotone in the past, which is needed to predict the future. In this study, we present palynol...

Based on eighteen months of ethnographic fieldwork from 2004 to 2006 among a range of Iranian organizations in Washington, D.C., this article argues that the studied organizations were engaged, without being always necessarily aware of it or formulating it as such, in what we may call an “ethos transplant:” a transformation of “Iranian character” and political culture to make it more susceptibl...
متن کاملHybrid urban space and the dichotomous citizen phenomenon in the 21st century Case Study: Tehran
Aims and contexts: Today, technology, as an integral part of life, has affected cities with fundamental and functional changes and it is known as a new feature of them in the 21st century. These changes have led to the dual specialization of life and consequently, to citizens with behavioral transformation. In other words, the hybrid urban space has created a dichotomous citizen with dual real-...

[1] Forced with increased greenhouse gases, the South Asian summer monsoon (SASM) circulation weakens in climate models, which appears inconsistent with the projected increases in near-surface land-sea thermal contrasts during the 21st century. Our analysis shows that the SASM intensity positively correlates with the land-sea thermal contrast in both the lowerand upper-troposphere before year 2...
